Green Hydrogen Production Facility in Cluj-Napoca (2.5 MW)
The Transylvania Hydrogen Valley has been selected to receive PDA Light support under the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, following a successful European evaluation. As part of the project consortium, EMARC will contribute its technical and research expertise to the further development of an integrated renewable hydrogen ecosystem in Cluj-Napoca. The six-week Project Development Assistance programme will support the consortium in refining the technical, commercial, operational and governance framework of the Hydrogen Valley and in developing a clearer pathway towards financing, implementation and a future investment decision. For EMARC, this represents an important opportunity to apply our expertise in hydrogen technologies, sustainable mobility and integrated energy systems to the development of a technically robust and scalable regional hydrogen ecosystem.
SUSTAINABLE ENERGY
It's Time To Go Green!
Cluj-Napoca is taking a significant step towards sustainable transportation by establishing a Hydrogen Production and Refueling Station. This facility will provide a clean energy source to fuel hydrogen-powered buses and vehicles, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting green mobility.
Environmental Impact
Reduces CO₂ emissions by replacing diesel with hydrogen fuel, aligning with the European Green Deal targets.
Public Health
Contributes to cleaner air by reducing particulate and nitrogen oxide emissions from public transportation.
Mobility Innovation
Paves the way for hydrogen-based transportation in Romania, positioning Cluj-Napoca as a pioneer in green energy adoption.

How it Works
Green Energy
The plant sources electricity exclusively from renewable sources certified by green energy labels.
Water Electrolysis
Using Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) technology, water is split into hydrogen and oxygen, with hydrogen stored for use as fuel.
Compression and Storage
Hydrogen is compressed and stored in tanks at high pressure, ensuring a reliable supply for fueling vehicles.
Distribution
High-capacity dispensers provide hydrogen at 350 bar for buses and 700 bar for cars, enabling fast and efficient refueling.
Stakeholders and Partners
Looking ahead
With the hydrogen station, Cluj-Napoca envisions a future where clean, renewable energy powers transportation. This project is just one of many steps towards a sustainable, resilient city that embraces innovative solutions for a better tomorrow.
